Glossary of Radiology

aseptic
: free from contamination caused by harmful bacteria, viruses, or other microorganisms.
bone
The dense, semirigid, porous, calcified connective tissue forming the major portion of the skeleton of most vertebrates

computed tomography
A method of examining body organs by scanning them with X rays and using a computer to construct a series of cross-sectional scans along a single axis

diagnostic radiography
The examination of internal organs, bones, cavities and foreign objects; includes cardiovascular imaging and interventional radiography.

electromagnetic radiation
It's a form of radiant energy, propagating through space via electromagnetic waves and/or particles called photons

fracture
A fracture is a complete or incomplete break in a bone resulting from the application of excessive force.
inject
To introduce (a drug or vaccine, for example) into a body part

laxative
a medicine or agent for relieving constipation

lead apron
Lead shielding refers to the use of lead as a form of radiation protection to shield people or objects from radiation so as to reduce the effective dose.

magnetic resonance imaging
MRI a noninvasive medical diagnostic technique in which the absorption and transmission of high-frequency radio waves are analysed as they irradiate the hydrogen atoms in water molecules and other tissue components placed in a strong magnetic field.

mammography
Uses low dose x-ray systems to produce images of the human breasts

medical file, medical record
A chronological written account of a patient's examination and treatment that includes the patient's medical history and complaints...

medical imaging
Medical imaging is the technique and process used to create images of the human body for clinical purposes or medical science.Although imaging of removed organs and tissues can be performed for medical reasons, such procedures are not usually referred to as medical imaging, but rather are a part of pathology.

pathology
the science of the causes and effects of diseases, esp. the branch of medicine that deals with the laboratory examination of samples of body tissue for diagnostic or forensic purposes.

private hospital
a hospital similar to a group hospital except that it is controlled by a single practitioner or by the practitioner and the associates in his or her office.

prosthesis
An artificial body part, such as a leg, a heart, or a breast implant.

radiation
It's a process in which electromagnetic waves (EMR) travel through a vacuum or through matter-containing media; the existence of a media to propagate the waves is not required.

radiologist
a medical specialist who uses radioactive substances and X-rays in the treatment of disease

scan (ct scan)
an X-ray image made using computerized axial tomography.

sonography
Using the reflections of high-frequency sound waves to construct an image of a body organ (a sonogram); commonly used to observe fetal growth or study bodily organs

stretcher
A litter, usually of canvas stretched over a frame, used to transport the sick, wounded, or dead.

Day in the Life of Radiology Technician

I live in Canada and my college is located in Montreal. In this province, after the High School, you can continue your education. If you want to go to University, you have to do a class at the College. Also at the Cégep, you can complete a technic, that’s what I do. My technic is Imaging Radio diagnostic for 3 years, you have to assist the patient for taking radiographies. I choose this program because I like the interaction with the public and the satisfaction when you help someone.

Radiology Technician
A radiology technician is someone who creates images of the body of the patient in different field like imaging scan, x-ray and MRIs. They send images to the radiologist, for he can do the diagnostic for the pathology of the patient. Radiology technician has a big importance for the follow-up of the patient. Now, this is a day in his life.
Where They Work
The majority of technician work at the hospital. In 2010, they were doing a statistic and 61 percent of technician worked at the hospital, 21 percent worked at the offices of physicians and 9 percent at diagnostic laboratories.
Work Environnement
The radiology technician is always standing up. They always have to move patient to the X-ray room to her hospital room. Also, they have to transfer the patient to the stretcher to the table. They can go to the hospital room, for doing the radiography, they can be infected. Radiology technician has to be careful and protect us by the mask, gloves and wall of lead.
Tasks and Duties
They have to give instructions for the exams, the preparation, the duration and what the patient have to do and what we scan. When the images is good, you have to send the images of the patient. The doctor has to do the analyse for the diagnostic. When you don’t have patient, you have to clean the materials and prepare the room for the other patient.
Qualities in the Workplace
You have to be detailed-oriented and in the good healthy because you have the life of the patient in your hand.
Hours Worked
Your hours is 8 hour day, but you can do more if you have emergency situations, like an injury. Also, your hours of work can be in the night and in the weekends.

How to Use the RadiologyInfo.org to do a Radiodiagnostic Search

RadiologyInfo.org

RadiologyInfo.org is created for 15 years and more than 350 radiology professionals have participated to this website. This website is made for the patient of radiology who wants information or exactness of what is radiology. They inform and educate the public with the information of the treatments, the patient types, the wellness, the condition and the safety. All the question that you have from Diagnostic Imaging is here. This website is produced by RSNA (Radiological Society of North America) and ACR (American College of Radiology). It helps me for my field of study because we have a lot of information with an excellent quality.

How to use the RadiologyInfo.org to do Radiodiagnostic Search

In this video, I will do a walkthrough demonstrating how perform a specific task on radiodiagnostic search
